I was just talking with some friends about maybe restarting the blog that I ran many years ago called StovePipeHat. Much to my amazement, one of my friends sent me a screenshot showing that it was still on the 'net. Sure, it's been a decade since any new content has been posted, but it's miraculously still here. I don't especially remember paying for the domain name - or the Typepad plan - but somehow, here it is.
StovePipeHat was originally started around 1999, when I started running a copy of SlashCode - the open source version of the software that ran Slashdot back in the day - on a monstrous HP 9000 server that I kept in a warehouse. It was a combination personal blog, a place for friends and family to post interesting content, and a way for me to publish the occasional article. Eventually, the SlashCode fell into disrepair after the sale of Slashdot and I migrated the blog to TypePad, where it sits today. The warehouse, and the HP 9000 are also long gone - simultaneously, as I recall. It's just sat here unused for a decade. Until now that is.
My three adult children - all born after the dawn of this blog - tell me about these fancy 'Social Media' sites. It's some kind of fad, I tell you!
With any luck, I'll also be able to revive the old StovePipeHat CafePress store, where we sold T-shirts emblazoned with the S|H logo, and also black plastic stretchy bracelets (remember those?) that said "WWW.STOVEPIPEHAT.COM" on one side and "HATE" on the other.
My plan is to write something every day. Enjoy!
